Queenstown Helicopter Weddings at Lochnagar

📌 Location

Ōtaka or Lochnagar is a heli-wedding landing location close to Queenstown and Wanaka in the South Island of New Zealand. It’s a little more off the beaten track than other more visited spots and is, breathtakingly beautiful. Your heli-wedding flight to this magical spot is about 20 minutes from Queenstown, giving you plenty of time to enjoy views across the Southern Alps along the way. There are multiple landing location options around the lake and capacity for multiple machines if you wish to include friends and whānau in your wedding adventure too!

❄️ Snow

Lochnagar doesn’t offer the best snow coverage at lake level, but the mountains surrounding the lake definitely get a good dusting of the white stuff in winter. Think less snow under foot and more snow capped mountains and a crystal blue lake for your heli-wedding photos.

🌅 Sunset

At the lakes edge Lochnagar will loose sunlight earlier than the peaks which surround it. This means you can enjoy the magic of golden hour earlier in the day which can be great in summer when true sunset can be well after 9pm back in Queenstown.

🔎 Views

There are many lading options for your Lochnagar heli-wedding, all offering something different for your wedding photos. Choose from quiet pebbled beaches, dramatic rocky outcrops, a rustic hunting hut and even a secret waterfall. Whichever landing spot you decide on the sandflies will find you in the summer months, but we’ll have some repellent spray at the ready!

💵 Cost

The longer flight time compared to locations closer to Queenstown (such as Mount Crichton and Double Cone) makes your Lochnagar heli-wedding a bigger investment. But with so much to offer we think it’s totally worth it.
