Queenstown Helicopter Weddings at Cecil Peak
📌 Location
Cecil Peak is your entry level Queenstown helicopter wedding location. The peak reaches as high as 4500 ft but the iconic Ledge on the northern side of the mountain stands around 3500 ft. With views across Lake Whakatipu, Queenstown township and the surrounding mountains, it’s no wonder that The Ledge at Cecil Peak is such a crowd pleaser. As well as The Ledge, Cecil Peak has various other landing spots along the ridge line and at the Garden Spurs area on the southern face. There is space at Cecil Peak for extra helicopters to transfer multiple guests and the short 5 minute flight time keeps Cecil Peak affordable. We recommend a flight time after 4pm when air traffic in the are is quieter and Cecil Peak is more easily accessible.
❄️ Snow
At Cecil Peak there will always be some snow coverage in winter, usually from late June through to the end of the July. The Garden Spur area is higher up and will keep the snow longer than at The Ledge. Overall, the snow won’t stick around for as long as at other Queenstown heli-wedding landing locations like Double Cone or Tyndall Glacier. At The Ledge the snow will easily melt and become patchy and muddy as soon as the weather warms up towards the end of winter and start of spring. However, sometimes the crazy Queenstown weather has brought snow storms in January… So who knows!
🌅 Sunset
If you’re looking for epic sunset skies The Ledge and ridge line of Cecil Peak is tough to beat. Whilst we often use the term golden hour, the sky can glow all different shades of pinks, purples, oranges and yellows. How about that for the background of your Queenstown heli-wedding and elopement photos? To capture sunset on your wedding day we will lock in the last available helicopter flight of the day.
🔎 Views
If Queenstown already holds a special place in your heart then Cecil Peak could be the perfect sentimental location for your wedding ceremony, elopement or photos. From The Ledge you can see the Queenstown township and reflect on the memories you’ve made there. Also, you’ll enjoy seeing the iconic Earnslaw steam ship travelling one way or the other on it’s journey between Queenstown and Walter Peak Station.
💵 Cost
Another reason Cecil Peak is one of the most well loved and most visited Queenstown heli-wedding locations is the cost to get there. The shorter flight time (compared with other locations such as Lochnagar) means it’s your best bet even on the strictest of budgets. All our heli-wedding packages include at least 60 minutes landing time for your wedding ceremony, celebratory toast and lots of photos.
🚁 Adventure
If you love Cecil Peak but crave a little more adventure too, you can add a second heli-landing location. This additional landing also brings some further variation to your final wedding photos and video. We recommending adding a stop at Lochnagar, Lake Erskine or Earnslaw Burn either before or after your landing at Cecil Peak.
